Director Biography - Han Su

Han Su is a Chinese student majoring in moving image at the University of Sydney. He received his bachelor's degree in media and art production at the University of Technology Sydney.
Because Han grew up in a special environment, he had more freedom than his peers. This made him more interested in films from other countries, and also from his childhood experience, Han Su was more interested in family and kinship films.
In 2019, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he couldn't return to Sydney for his studies and had to enroll in online courses. It was during this time that Han Su also had the opportunity to intern on a film set. While interning on the film set, he worked as an assistant camera operator and participated in the filming of promotional videos for a locally renowned university. This experience had the most significant impact on him as it made him realize that his existing knowledge was far from sufficient. Therefore, after graduating from UTS, he continued his education at the University of Sydney.
Up to this point, he has completed a substantial amount of filming work. He served as the Director of Photography (DOP) for the first time in the short film "Gaze," worked as an Assistant Camera (AC) in "Beauty in the Lens," served as the Art Designer in "The Tramp," worked as an Assistant Director (AD) in "Ctrl," and served as an Editor in "Lost." Currently, he is in the final stages of producing his last project as a director during his Master's program.

Director Statement

There is no doubt that the premise of this movie is crucial because the entire story revolves around Kason's understanding of his son. The message I wanted to convey in the movie was clear: everyone should strive to better understand their family members. After watching this movie, I hope that viewers will have more conversations with their family members. Because if there is a lack of understanding between family members, misunderstandings and negative circumstances can arise. I also hope that teenagers will understand this concept. Especially in today's ever-changing world. Older generations may not fully understand new trends, but they have valuable insight and better decision-making skills. As in the movie, Kason sets up a bright future for his son, which, objectively speaking, certainly provides a better platform for the child. Due to the structure of the timeline, Kason's moods and states are completely different at different times. During the day, he is focused on arranging college interviews for his son, so his demeanor should be serious. However, after he has seen the news of his son's death once, when he encounters Marco again, his emotions become complicated - sadness mixed with nostalgia, causing him to change his previous seriousness. As the protagonist, the conflict between Kason and Marco rekindles his seriousness, giving an image of a man so consumed by his work that he barely has the energy to take care of his child. As for Marco, he embodies the youthful boyishness of a teenager and represents the majority of the younger generation.
