West discovered his passion for filmmaking through acting but later realized his true calling was behind the camera, where he could explore storytelling through a new lens. After earning a BFA in Cinematography from the UNCSA School of Filmmaking, West was nominated for the student ASC award, further cementing his commitment to the craft.
With a sharp eye for composition and lighting, he uses the camera to create atmosphere and draw the audience deeper into the story. His background in acting, music, and editing gives him a natural rhythm in filmmaking and a unique understanding of both sides of the camera.
His short film CHUTE—heavily influenced by John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982)—is one of his favorite projects, showcasing his love for suspense and practical effects. Made with no budget and brought together by a talented VFX artist, it embodies his run-and-gun approach to filmmaking.
Drawn to character-driven dramas, horror, and thrillers, West takes inspiration from the darker tones of films like There Will Be Blood, Fight Club, and The Batman. His global filming experience has taught him to adapt to different lighting and atmospheres, shaping his vision for telling visually striking and impactful stories.
