Weltschmerz
"Weltschmerz" is a poetic short film about the melancholy of ones own insufficiency as a consequence of human destructiveness. The film shows three individuals and how they deal with depression and the end of the world. It's based on a poem about the feeling of hopelessness regarding the current ecological situation and the irreversible consequences for future generations.
The story takes place in the year 2050. By that time, the climate crisis will impact our lives heavily. On top of that, the three protagonists have to deal with their inner deamons as well. "Weltschmerz" is a coming-of-age film as the characters are all faced with a fundamental and life-changing decision. The film title is a german word that hits the nail on the head. It describes the feeling of pain over the transience of earthly glory. By the end of the film, the characters come to a new insight and are matured.

My name is Lisa Mausbach, i was born in 1995 and grew up in a small village. I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Directing in time-based Media at Mainz University. As a teenager, I have discovered a passion for cameras, and that feeling has remained to this day. For me, there is no comparable feeling as finishing a project that is close to my heart. In every project I see a chance to grow, because the most important thing is to live out your creativity, even if you fail. Currently i started studying photography at FH Dortmund.

I see a lot of parallels between the areas film and photo especially when it comes to creative direction. You create pictures that tell stories. I want to tell stories that puts the viewer out of their comfort zone. I think the comfort zone is the most boring place. I rarely work with a solid script. I want the actors to feel free and give them room to improvise and be creative.
