Director Biography - Durga Raju Myakala, Aleks Spurmanis, Sri Bhupathiraju

"I started writing and producing films during the lock-down as a way to change my mindset. At the time, I felt overwhelmed by the chaotic adversity that came at me through the television news. There seemed to be a lot of people inciting division, fear, and outrage. I turned to film-making as a way to restore the sense of cooperation, compassion, and hope that I was missing."

Director Statement

Durga, Sri, and I decided to collaborate together to create a short film for the 2023 Toronto 48-Hour Film Project. Having drawn Romance out of the genre hat, and being required to include a chef named Kai Lee, a postcard and the line "Well, Who Knew?" we decided to write an LGBTQ romance in order to showcase the talent of our female cast members. While the film ended up having more of a dramatic than romantic vibe, it captures the idea that love can sometimes arise from unexpected moments.
