Brett Knickrehm (born April 26, 1989) and Andrew Mitchell (born January 24, 1990) are American animators, writers, directors, and voice actors. They are the creators of the animated comedy series, Welcome To Melville, as well as a collection of animated shorts titled, Axeman and Bass: Rockers Through Time, and the stop-motion short film, Whales to the Moon.
Andrew and Brett began their creative partnership in a film class at Centerville High School, shooting and editing several music videos and short films together and receiving high praise from instructors for their dedication to the craft of filmmaking.
The two attended Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio to study marketing before Brett ultimately dropped out, later enrolling in the International College of Broadcasting to focus on audio engineering and video production.
Post-graduation, the pair founded Twenty Two Media Productions, specializing in music video production, audio recording, and wedding videography.
Operating a semi-succesful production company, they set their sights on the more creative side of media and the concept for an animated comedy series, Whales With Legs, was birthed.
What began as a silly, crude, adult comedy took shape over the years and from 2013-2018 the concept, characters, and scripts were retooled and rewritten into a much more polished, mainstream project.
In 2019, the two attended the Hollywood Pitch Fest in Los Angeles and met with several influential names in the industry, being taken under the wing of an executive with Gaumont International Television.
Under the guidance of their new mentor, Andrew and Brett hired an extremely talented animator, Igor Lengo, and began to produce a series of short animatics to display their vision. Within months, they put a stop to the animatic shorts and began production on a full-color, full-length pilot episode and adopted a new name for the show after the town in which it takes place, Welcome to Melville.
With a pilot completed and a second episode in production, Andrew and Brett have begun to carve their own little groove into the world of animated comedy and will continue to write, draw, laugh, and dream up the craziest stories they can conceive until their untimely deaths in 2026 and 2032, respectively. They will be laid to rest in a his and his coffin at The Hollywood Cemetery for Subpar Creatives. Mark Wahlberg will be in attendance.
Whales are people, too!
