Weird Wednesday 0711 is an alternative to the usual movie theatre programme. We seek for national and international short films, beyond the "mainstream" from old school to progressive film making.

We offer a diversified monthly framework in an established metropolitan movie theatre that includes one short film chosen from the entries on FilmFreeway to open for a curated full-length feature. The screenings are accompanied by moderation, sometimes guest speakers and get-togethers.
Our guests get the opportunity to enjoy iconic film gems from the past, exciting new discoveries on the big screen AND a glimpse of the international world of short films which is rarely seen in mainstream cinemas apart from the festival circuit. It's your chance to reach real movie lovers and not just the "film festival elite".

The programme is specially designed for independent films from classic genres like horror, scifi or exploitation up to experimental hybrids and arthouse. We search for the obscure, profound, fantastic and the weirdly extraordinary! Some main feature examples from the first 2 years: "Toxic Avenger", "Evil Dead (1981)", "It's Hard To Be A God", "Entertainment", "The Whispering Star", "Der Bunker", "Ich seh, ich seh", "Der Samurai"...

Weird Wednesday 0711 is interesting for open-minded moviegoers - we attach great importance to a balanced program, which satisfies both genre lovers as well as curious cinephiles. All screenings are presented in the original version with subtitles and without commercials.

For that, we give you the opportunity to send us your short films. Any production years are welcome. But please do consider: We won't show any feelgood romcoms or phony melodramas - your film should feel WEIRD or special in any way.

We would be honored to invite you into our theatre for the screening. Travelling costs will not be reimbursed, but we would be happy to help you with your accommodation here in Stuttgart and take you out to dinner!

Awards & Prizes

An 'Weird Wednesday Official Selection' laurel and complimentary tickets to the screening awarded to each film selected.

Our audience votings determine the "Weirdo of the Year" finalists. Out of the (~) 12 films screened per year, 5-6 will be shown in a special screening where again the audience decides who gets the prize. The filmmakers of the winning film will get a special gratification and a special package from our sponsors.

Awesome communication and a really cool festival! I couldn't make it as I'm from Vancouver, Canada, but as I said - the communication was great and was super cool to be a part of it all. Highly recommend!

Korinna and Jörg - the fantastic duo behind Weird Wednesday 0711 - are awesome. They're real passionate people and movie maniacs, so they're taking good care of the films they like. Weird Wednesday is a wonderful "young fest" with great screening quality. Plus, many other events (like special screenings) are linked to it and that's a very good idea to screen short films right before some features. Two thumbs up. The same for their official logo : the greatest skull ever ! (I'm dreaming of a tee-shirt with this one printed on it)

Awesome monthly festival with great team & audience. I had the pleasure to travel to stuttgart to attend the sept 2017 event, being my short "The future is so bright" + feature film "Mr Long" by Sabu. The MC's Jörg & Korinna were top cool, the venue a top notch cinema, and the audience rabid fans of weirdness. So what else can i say ? Long live the WW !
