Director Statement

Weight is a drama, fantasy that follows protagonist Damian, a man wracked with guilt after playing a role in his sister's death. A dark spectre haunts Damian’s dreams as he is plagued by addiction and suicidal thoughts. This short film explores themes of mental health, particularly suicidality, PTSD and addiction. The film’s conceit was to depict the existence of somebody in the throes of self-destruction. To convey that subjective experience in an honest and non-judgmental way. Through its surreal elements, Weight presents an exploration of the internal battle of those dealing with guilt and unresolved grief. Damian must ultimately choose whether to succumb to the darkness or to break free from the destructive path its put him on.
