Director Statement

Web-Mistress depicts a small-scale oneiric world which defies our everyday definitions of time and logic. I transferred the narrative elements of Ewers’ story onto a setting characterised by temporal confusion and disorientation. This dreamlike world becomes a stage for reflection. Its fantasy of feminine power shifts between anxiety and fascination. By adapting a staple of the classic horror/supernatural literature, I explore new expressive possibilities within the genre without fully abiding by its established conventions. Web-Mistress is also a personal love-letter to low-budget euro-horror and exploitation films, using their minimal drama as a model.
