We are all Brothers

In 1962, Charles Azou, a young Frenchman, writes a letter to my grandfather Heinz. Charles apologizes for the hardships during Heinz' time as a prisoner of war with the Azou family. Why is he apologizing? Charles himself was still a child when Heinz lived with the Azous.

My father and my aunt can't tell me anything specific. My grandpa died in the early 00's, so I can't ask him anymore.

Perhaps Charles Azou is still alive. Did Heinz ever write back to him? And what is the story behind the red toy truck that he supposedly built for the Azou children?

Together my father and I travel to Plouescat to find answers and in the process come across new questions.

“We are all Brothers” is a film about a German soldier and a French family. It is a piece of family history and a journey to the beginnings of reconciliation between France and Germany.
