Marquelle "Kelley" Young is an award winning Director and Choreographer, having produced five films in the last year alone. A graduate of the New York Conservatory For the Dramatic Arts, she has worked along side the likes of Tony-winning Director, Kenny Leon and Emmy-winning Director, Mary Lou Belli. Catch her latest film, MEMAW streaming on Amazon. Marquelle continues to direct, write and produce; working towards growth and honoring the power of storytelling.
Although she got her start in acting, Kelly Dawkins has since advanced into working as a casting director, agent, unit production manager, producer, writer, and now director. Her passion, above all, is telling great stories. She is the proud owner of LockedDoors Productions, where she works scrupulously to tell stories that inspire.
We, "The Kelly's" as we are often referred to, love nothing more than a cheeky comedy with strong female leads. Filmed in and around Atlanta, using local Georgia Businesses, We Should Hang Out More is the culmination of young women attempting to find their purpose, both on and off-screen.
This story came to life through female partnerships--both our own as a directing-producing duo, and from the writing partnership of Danielle "Natural Queen" Glover and Rachel "Rdawg" Wender. They were a joy to work with, even when having to do complete rewrites just days before filming.
What most drew us to this project was the challenge of marrying the two genres of buddy comedy and Film Noir. Ultimately, we decided to keep the characters more grounded in comedy through their acting, makeup, costumes, and set dec, while leaning the music, sound design, lighting, and camera movements into the dark aspects of Noir, thus creating the world around them.
This film would not have been made possible without the incredible crew, including DP extraordinaire Azariah Oldacre. Special shout-out to the crew for participating in the most epic pre-shoot laser tag battle Lazer Quest has ever seen!
With this project we felt the importance of representing nuanced, diverse characters. Our hope is that when people watch they can find a little bit of themselves and heck, even maybe laugh along the way. Grab your bestie and fall in love with these two ladies as deeply as we did. Oh, that reminds me, we really should hang out more.
Special shout out to Wilfred, the Fish, the biggest diva on set, who lived a long and happy life.
