We Found Love @The Dinah

Follow six diverse couples who met at the largest and longest-running event where queer women go to find the love of their life, Dinah Shore Weekend - also known as Lesbian Spring Break. Set against the backdrop of 30 years of LGBTQ history, we follow Mariah Hanson, the promoter who overcame incredible odds to yearly host 15,000 womxn seeking womxn in Palm Springs. And... hear from the musical talent who all went worldwide within six months of playing Dinah Shore; including Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Meghan Trainor and The Pussycat Dolls. From the spine of this seminal piece of queer history we explore life with two moms, generational impact on queerness, gay rights in multiple countries, living a non-binary life in a binary world, and the tastemaking power of the Lesbian community.

OUTLINE:
The film is a two part doc, the format of which is inspired by Wild Wild Country, a multi-layered historical event with lots of twists and turns. We build the spine of the story first, setting the stage for why an event like Dinah Shore Weekend is so desperately needed, begin to unfurl 30 years of queer history, and introduce event characters as well as six couples who found love at The Dinah.
1. The Dinah as an anchor for the community and a cultural phenomenon - history of the golf tournament and the event. Meet Mariah Hanson, longtime staff members, and our couples.
2. Dive into the talent that broke at the Dinah (Gaga, Lizzo, Pussycat Dolls, Megan Trainor, etc.)
3. Continue telling the story of the Dinah’s growth and evolution/Continue telling the stories of our diverse couples
4. Focus on Family - What’s life like with two moms? Sustainability of queer families in day to day realities.
5. Unpack Gender fluidity, the impact on the older lesbian community that laid all the groundwork for today’s freedoms, the loss of “butch” - laying out the struggles of today’s non-binary and trans attendees and the solace that The Dinah delivers
6. Palm Springs - Expose what cutting edge inclusivity at the civic and government level can do for a region. Celebrate PS’ successes.
7. Continue touching in on our couples, some struggling, some divorcing, others getting married. Show mass weddings happening at Dinah 2022.
8. As some of our couples are international, take a look at gay rights in other countries and within the halls of institutions in America like public school system and the Catholic Church - bring it back to The Dinah.
9. Mariah has been at this for 30 years and it’s time to pass on the torch. Who of all the characters we’ve met can carry on the legacy.
