Best Short Screenplay
Daniel Goldberg is a writer, director, editor, and colorist working under the brand Horned Melon Productions. His narrative work often explores the self-help obsessions of privileged Brooklynites and the gray areas between love and friendship. His most recent short film, which he wrote, directed, and edited, has won numerous awards including Best Comedy from 4theatre, Best Comedy Short from World Indie Film Awards, Best Comedy Short from Vesuvius International Film Festival, Exceptional Achievement in Comedy from Multi Dimension Independent Film Festival, and Best LGBT Short from Calgary Independent Film Festival, among others. His work as a colorist runs the gamut from feature documentaries to narrative shorts, music videos, and commercials. He received a BA in literature from Bennington College in Vermont, where he met co-writer Catherine Weingarten in a contact improv class.
Catherine Weingarten is a friendly jewish chick from an obscure area of Pennsylvania! Catherine’s summer camp play “Are You Ready to Get PAMPERED!?” had a reading at 59E59 with Less than Rent and also was part of Dixon Place’s Bingo Lounge. Some of her other plays include: Pineapple Upside Down Cake (KCACTF:national semi-finalist), Janis and the Big BAD World (Semi-finalist at Wide Eyed Productions), A Roller Rink Temptation (NOLA Fringe), This Car Trip Suckss ( Piper Theater Productions Emerging Artist Reading Series), and Love Potion Number Slut (Tiny Rhino). She has been involved with Abingdon Playwrights Group as well as New Perspective’s Women’s Work Short Play Lab. She is the recipient of the Scott McPherson award.
