Director Biography - Gabriela Fannia, Raevon Dsouza

GABRIELA FANNIA (Director)

My name is Gabriela Fannia, and I am an International Student studying in Australia. I came from Bandung, a small city in Indonesia. My cultural identity has always been a tough question and a constant reflection for myself, as I was born in Indonesia but I have Chinese background, and now living in Melbourne. It’s fair to say, I have always felt like a minority whichever country I live in. I study media and communication, and love producing visual media - photography and videography. Working in visual media helps me to understand the differences we see in the world, the people and the culture. Furthermore, it teaches me to accept those diversity I encounter in my journey of capturing the most visually stunning things around me.

RAEVON DSOUZA (Director)

I am Raevon Dsouza, an international student currently residing in Melbourne, Australia. I come from the busiest city in India, Mumbai. Living in a multicultural country myself I've witnessed so many different cultures and that has always fascinated me. Having a Catholic background since birth I've always been surrounded with friends from different cultures and we have never treated each other as different individuals. I believe that every human being should be treated equally without taking culture or any norms of the society into consideration.

THY DOUGLAS (Producer + Writer)

My name is Thy Douglas and I am a University student born and raised in Melbourne. I have always been fascinated by the concept of multiculturalism - in particular within the Australian community. Growing up in a Vietnamese and Scottish family , I witnessed and experienced a unique intersection of cultures, languages, foods and traditions. Identifying my cultural identity therefore was always a challenge as I felt I did not truly belong to either world. Yet as I have grown, the conversations and experiences I have had, the people I have met have all helped me to make sense of this cultural exchange, find a sense of belonging and create a world in which both my cultures can exist in harmony. Australia truly is a melting pot of cultures and I strongly encourage everyone to embrace their own heritage and celebrate their cultural identity. Without this celebration, Australia would be a much less interesting place to live in.
