Director Statement

Kai (Screen Rebels co-director & co-writer) and I always loved playing in the world of the supernatural and, personally, I’ve always been fascinated by the effects of future shock in the modern world and the desire to find salvation in the unexplained or the more holistic world of the occult. It’s something I become acutely aware of in recent years with the number of advertisements I see online for healing, crystals, tarot, etc. As a society, we’re becoming disillusioned with mechanisms of corporatism and globalization. On a personal level, we’re seeking answers from non-conventional sources in the search for personal enlightenment and salvation.

Limitation is the mother of invention: for this film we elected to achieve the finest results with the equipment we had, going for a fixed camera in the majority of our shots to control the frame and bring cinematic focus to our characters, thereby allowing the superb talents of our actors to create the drama.

We chose locations based on the breathtaking beauty of the seaside town Shoreham-By-Sea, with its serene beach and quintessentially English graveyard and church. It’s no accident that our opening scene with Adam walking into the sea, symbolic of a desire to return to nature is marred by technology in the background with the wind farm.
