Wajiira - Ancestral Land of the Wayuu
The Wayuu have lived on the peninsula La Guajira for more than 2000 years. The desert climate of the region in the border area between Colombia and Venezuela has always demanded a high level of adaptability from them. Today, climate change, coal mining, the ongoing armed conflict and the arrival of Western culture pose additional threats to the traditional life of the indigenous community. The destiny of the affected inhabitants is as different as the existing coping strategies. What unites them all is the demand for the most basic thing: the right to drinking water and a dignified life.
The film "Wajiira - Ancestral land of the Wayuu" offers a comprehensive view of the sometimes harsh daily reality of the indigenous community. Using elements of reportage and documentary genres, it manages to capture the current situation from both a journalistic and a local perspective.
