Born in Naples in 1985, she graduated in Communication. She began her studies in documentary filmmaking in 2009 at Act Multimedia in Rome, where she produced the short film “Marcello.” She continued to develop her skills through various workshops and residencies, learning from renewed artists such as Pietro Marcello, Sara Fgaier, Marco Pasquini, and Tarek Ben Abdallah. In 2014, she directed her first documentary film, “La Malattia del Desiderio” (57’), which won the Audience Award at the SalinaDocFest. That same year, she participated in the Filmap project, an Atelier of Cinema del Reale in Ponticelli, coordinated by L.Di Costanzo, where she created the short film “L’Altalena”. She also contributed to the shooting and editing of the film “Aperti al Pubblico” by S. Bellotti, which won the Audience Award at the Festival dei Popoli. In 2019, she presented her second feature-length film, “La Villa,” in the “Alice nella Città” section of the Rome Film Festival. This film was developed through the In Progress workshop organized by Milano Film Network and co-produced by Videomante, a Friulian company, and Rai Cinema. “Tempo d’Attesa” is her third documentary. She also works as an assistant director and casting assistant for both fiction features and documentaries (“L’intrusa,”“Rosa,Pietra e Stella,”“Nopoli,”“La Paranza Dei Bambini”) and is involved in educational activities at schools, workshops, and short courses. She served as a tutor at the Procida Film Atelier directed by L.Di Costanzo and coordinated by Società Parallelo 41, which led to the creation of the film “Procida.” This film was edited in collaboration with Lea Dicursi and presented out of competition at the 2023 Locarno Film Festival, where it received a special mention for the Ricola Prize 2023.
When I discovered I was pregnant, it felt as if everyone had an opinion and a truth about the right things to do. I found myself directed down a path that had been decided by others for me, based on what appeared to be customs and standardized practices, as well as the choices made by the other women in my family. I wondered if there could be another, more personal way to navigate the complete upheaval I was experiencing. It was from this “search” of mine that this film was born. I contacted a midwife, Teresa De Pascale, who scheduled a meeting with me at Bosco di Capodimonte, where she held weekly prenatal meetings. I took some photos: a circle of pregnant women under a magnolia tree, with an older woman among them, listening and sharing her experiences. Only later I realized that this way of building a community was a revolutionary act and a mission for Teresa. Giving birth was the most incredible experience of my life, and participating in these meetings allowed me to experience pregnancy and childbirth as an opportunity for personal growth. Gradually, my fear transformed into awareness and a great strength that was invaluable in facing the transformation I was going through.
