WIMBI (THE WAVES)

Clifford B. Okumu is a Film Director and Scriptwriter from Mombasa, Kenya working at Celestial Touch
Studio. He has Written and Directed “Kosa na Kosa" which aired on Africa Magic Swahili (Now Maisha
Magic East) and later Zuku Swahili. He formed part of the pool of
writers for the Swahili Telenovela “Saida” Season One that aired
on Citizen TV (2012-2013) under Super Sato and later a writer in
yet another Swahili Telenovela “Nira” on Maisha Magic East
(2015). His short film 'In Between’ won him Best Director Award
during the Coast Film Festival 2014.
Other writing and directorial works include “Chozi” and ‘Michael’
films respectively which were both premiered in 2016. He
directed and wrote the screenplay for “NAAHIDI” which
premièred in September 2019.
He writes and edits scripts for “Pete” a telenovela showing on
Maisha Magic East since January 2019 to date. He has been a
Director in the ongoing Maisha Magic East Telenovela “Selina” for
Seasons 1, 2 and 3. He is one of the writers for “The Kalimani
Dynasty” Season 2 showing on KTN.
Clifford has trained film production at various workshops organized by Ministry of Education Science
and Technology, Kenya Film Commission and Communication Authority of Kenya.
In 2015, he was the vice-chair in the Nomination Academy for Kalasha International Awards. During the
Uganda Film Festival 2016 he was a member of Jury.
In 2018, he chaired the jury for (LIPFF) Lake International Panafrican Film Festival. He was later a
member of jury in ZIFF 2019 and LIPFF 2019.
He is the former chair of the Coast Filmmakers Association and was also a Board Member of the Alliance
Francaise de Mombasa for 6 years.
