Director Biography - Branka Pavlović

Branka Pavlović

Editor and video artist. She graduated Film and TV Editing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and MA Kunst im Kontext at the University of Arts in Berlin (UdK Berlin). She works as an editor, video artist and art outreach educator for documentary film, theatre and projects dealing with the culture of memory and (video) performance. She currently works as an educator for the use of film and digital media at the Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS) at the Freie Universtät in Berlin, Germany. She has been the co-selector and artistic director of the Free Zone Belgrade Human Rights Film Festival since 2009. She lives and works in Berlin and Belgrade.

Director Statement

"WHITE AND BLACK- a Matinée with Maga" screendance video was developed and filmed with professional and non-professional dancers in Belgrade, Serbia at one of the original locations where Maga Magazinović (serbian dancer, choreographer, journalist and feminist) once performed with her students in the early 1920's. She was a pioneer of modern dance in Serbia introducing and teaching modern dance since 1910, thirteen years before classical ballet ensemble was founded at Serbian National Theatre in Belgrade. This video is a part of a visual research for a short experimental film MAGA 1909 supported by FCS - Film Centre Serbia (in production).
