("WHAT BIRDS WANT TO SAY")
Sin, a socio-psycho dilemma…

This is a story on splintered lives. Meenakshi a thirteen-year-old girl, her father Mohamed Jahan and her mother Indulekha who live in there marooned worlds. Jahan is a taxidermist. He tries to freeze the flight of birds, reflecting his view of life affecting relationships. His world is like a box of eerie memories frozen in taxi -dermal mounts, glass jars and bead eyes. Indulekha, who had an emotional paralytic stroke, is bedridden. Life goes on disconnected in the huge ancestral house of dark shades. Fighting the forced solitude, the teenager created a magical world of happiness around her. On a fateful day, confused and drunk, Jahan during his usual charade of expressing his unrequited love towards Indulekha mistakenly advances towards Meenakshi. That dark act throws the splintered lives into a moral vortex. It takes her to an abysmal plunge to loss of her pictorial passion of life. The recoil of it triggers terminal actions. Everything changed in their lives when the whole universe is conspired against them to destine human tragedy.

Director Statement

“Pakshikalkk Parayanullath”( what the birds want to say) is the story of a teenager who represents the one among 10 girls who are sexually abused. We are a pseudo society, we talk about the crimes in numbers and the people involve as aliens. We need to discuss the real issue, the facts that lead to child abuse and its consequences. The movie deals with the complexities of the fragile topic, sex, and morality in relationships undefined. During the colonial invasions, the Abrahamic religions and the holy books introduced to an immature society. They are still perplexed with the very word sin, as a socio psycho dilemma. The story derives from the innocent teen-ager and her family lives in a big ancestral house. Space and solitude give precise psychological layers to the emotions of the characters. When a tragedy occurs, the whole universe will be conspiring against the helpless human. Meenakshi, her father, and her mother are the testimonies of their destiny. Most of the time we express our deepest condolences for all tragedies that as a society we are directly or indirectly accountable for. Can we not be vigilant before jeopardizing ourselves? We hope.
