Director Statement

Directing 'WHAT'S YOUR POISON' was an exhilarating and intense filmmaking experience that tested our creativity and resilience. Despite facing multiple challenges, we were able to overcome them and bring this short film to life.

During the production of 'WHAT'S YOUR POISON,' I found myself juggling multiple commitments, including directing an award-winning documentary (SPARRING ALL-STARS). Balancing these projects demanded careful time management and a dedicated team that was willing to go the extra mile.

One of the most significant setbacks we faced was the sudden dropout of both lead actors within 24 hours of the shoot, with one canceling on the morning of the shoot due to COVID-19. This unexpected turn of events required us to act swiftly and decisively. We reached out to our network and managed to find replacements who were willing to step in at the last minute. Despite the challenges of limited rehearsal time, the new actors embraced their roles and delivered exceptional performances.

Another major hurdle was the time constraints we faced during the shoot. With only 3 hours available for set preparation, actor rehearsals, and filming, every minute counted. It demanded precise coordination, efficient communication, and a talented crew that could adapt quickly to changing circumstances. The sense of urgency added an extra layer of intensity to the production, which ultimately enhanced the film's overall atmosphere.

Despite the challenges, our team remained resilient and focused on creating a high-quality film. We drew inspiration from the limitations we faced, using them as opportunities for innovation and creative problem-solving. We embraced the spontaneity and raw energy that emerged from the constraints.

This film serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of filmmaking and the importance of adaptability. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of collective creativity. Despite the challenges we faced, 'WHAT'S YOUR POISON' stands as a testament to our determination to overcome obstacles and bring stories to life.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and talented team, and I believe that the final product reflects their unwavering commitment to the craft of filmmaking. I hope that audiences will be captivated by the tense and suspenseful journey of 'WHAT'S YOUR POISON' and appreciate the tremendous effort that went into its creation.
