WELCOME TO PLAYLAND !

Playland at the Beach, also known as Mooneysville-by-the-Sea, Chutes at the Beach, and Whitney's Playland, provided fun and entertainment to generations of Bay Area families. But sadly, in 1972, after many years of declining attendance, the fun and entertainment came to a full stop, and the grand old amusement park faded into the past. It seems like something could have been done to save Playland. We could have designated it a Historical Landmark, turn the Fun House into a Museum, something. But unfortunately, a savior never emerged. And now there is nothing left but scattered artifacts, memorial sculptures, condos, a plaque, and a lesson for future generations in the importance of preserving our historical resources. It is impossible to squeeze decades of chills and thrills into a 12-minute music video. But I will try anyway. On Labor Day weekend, in the year 2022, it will have been fifty years since its closure, and the old park deserves to be remembered. So, step right up everybody! “Welcome to Playland!” Music by Earth Wind and Fire, Lets Groove Tonight, song two by BTS, Dynamite, song three by Glenn Miller and his orchestra, In the Mood. Director Statement

I consider myself an amateur film historian. Pictures and film of many places and events during the sixties & seventies are scares. My passion is to try and create a visual record set to music of Bay Area places and events from my past by editing internet footage from Bay Area History.
