Vom Krieg zum Frieden

The film “From War to Peace” is about Ukrainian citizens forced to flee because of the Ukrainian-Russian war. 4 characters, 4 lives. A young girl and her grandmother, as well as two mothers, talk about why, how, where and where. This is a summary: basic informations.

„On February 24, 2022, more than a year ago, the Russian Federation launched an offensive against the Ukrainian Autonomous and Sovereign Republic. According to information provided by the Chief of Defence of Norway, more than 30,000 civilians were victims of the war and more than 100,000 soldiers lost their lives at the front.
8 million Ukrainians have left their country due to the attacks. Thirty-three thousand of them have fled to Hungary. In this short film, we will ask the ukrainan citizens who have sought refuge in Pannonhalma how they are experiencing this time of crisis.”

Then came the interviews. Questions are increasingly being asked into the labyrinth of the human soul. First we are friends, where did they come from? where did they live? what do i want? Then we asked for an opinion and we were interested in how they saw the situation from such a situation. We, as external observers, know very little, even those who do not live in Europe. But there are things we can't learn from news, field reports... What about those who left? We asked them. In the afterword we see a summary, an opinion, a thought about how to take this film home with us.

„The war-torn Ukraine suffers the greatest damage not in its buildings, its national glory and its army, but in the innocent lives affected by them. It has caused damage in stories that we have now heard the details of. Which makes it impossible for you to know what would have happened if. The Russo-Ukrainian war is another generational tragedy, not only for the Russian and Ukrainian people - but also for Europe.”

This movie is about them. Those who left. We put them in the focus of our film. The visuals (sounds and images, lights and layouts) are used to process the subject. They lack something.

This is a brechtian documentary-drama. We have a prologue, we look at the people, then we walk out the door – we turn back for a moment, maybe someone watching. Everyone is missing something.
