Director Statement

I have been living since 2018 in the middle of an endless monologue. For the past five years, a large part of the French population has regularly gone out into the streets to express themselves, and I had the impression that almost nothing they had to say was really heard. That for years there had been a growing gap between the tiny handful of people who have the floor, in the media, in the public space, and the vast majority of French people, who had no channel, except the street, to say what they had to say.
I felt the need to reach out to those who are least heard, and yet who may be the ones who can change things later: those who do not yet have the right to vote, not yet the right to express themselves. I asked some teenagers from a high school in Belleville, Paris, to tell me about themselves. To tell me what a film about them, their problems, their concerns should be about. And I wrote a script based on their ideas, the things they wanted and needed to say, and we shot it together, exactly during the presidential elections of 2022.
All the characters are brought during the film to take a position. To take a stand. To speak out, especially to express what they think, what they want. Some will succeed. Others will not. Because nothing prepared them for it: the world in which we live teaches us since our childhood to keep quiet, not to speak. And maybe all the problems only come from there.
