VINCENT - A Story Of Supernatural Friendship
RIFF:
AWARD WINNER: BEST FEATURE FILM
AWARD WINNER: BEST ACTOR (MIKKEL VADSHOLT)
Jury notes on Vincent from RIFF:
🏆 🎥 BEST FEATURE:
"This year’s best feature goes to Vincent, a supernatural tale of an unlikely friendship. Director David Noel Bourke has made a touching yet uncanny film with a solid cast. Vincent is Scandinavian in its horror elements but also harkens back to filmmakers such as Lasse Halmström and Bille August. Vincent proves that a film does not need a large budget to have a big heart!"
🏆🎠BEST ACTOR:
“Mikkel Vadsholt's performance as the titular character is both unsettling and empathetic. His performance is quiet but never dull. Vadsholt establishes himself as a solid Danish talent in this film and makes Vincent one of the best features at this year`s edition of Ravenheart.”
VINCENT:
Nobody can understand you when you're 14.
A nordic small-town story about ice cream, friendship and monsters.
Viggo is a withdrawn 14-year-old. This would have been difficult enough without having to witness the disintegration of his family, and he doesn’t feel at home among his classmates either, and he seeks refuge in his imagination, particularly interested in the supernatural. In the midst of this loneliness, help appears from an unexpected place: Vincent, a mature ice cream seller, who sees himself in the young boy, and the two form an unusual friendship. However, Vincent carries his own secrets, and the more Viggo digs, the less willing he is to tell. Is Vincent really just a well-meaning stranger, or is there something behind his kindness?
Vincent is a coming-of-age tale that plays with the typical expectations from the horror genre in a charming, low-key way, yet never quite lets up on an underlying uneasiness...

Picked in BEST OF YEAR 2023 by Keri O'Shea
"...the film is rather cleverer than simply offering up a victim to a standard-issue monster, and turns our suspicions back on us, asking us – how much can we really know? Enough to judge? It’s a touching, clever film about unorthodox friendships and a learning curve taking place against a potentially supernatural background, successfully spanning different genres with ease. As I said at the time, this is one of those indie films which keeps you looking for gems of a similar quality."
- Keri O'Shea
"... transcending traditional vampiric horror tropes to explore themes of alienation, friendship, abuse, compassion, misconception, judgement, and bullying."
- Chris/Severed Cinema
"An immensely warm, often touching film about friendship which absolutely deserves to be seen. This is one of those indie cinema gems.."
Review - Keri O'Shea
“…It’s a testament to the writing and directing by Bourke and equally good performances from the cast … a solid drama with a touch of the macabre and a lot of talent that sets it apart...”
Review - Jim Morazzini
“This film was really unique and it reminded me why I love cinema so much.”
“An emotional and unconventional film that truly captivated me from start to finish!”
“Highlights an unlikely friendship that is beyond moving.”
“The two leads put their hearts into this one and it showed in the best way possible.”
“Dabbles with several different genres.”
“Gorgeous cinematography. This film was beautifully shot.”

An award winning writer, director, and editor, his previous film was the award winning BAKERMAN. The feature VINCENT is his newest film project, a supernatural tinged drama.
On VINCENT (interview):
"A few years ago, my daughter had some problems at school where she was teased. We went to a lot of meetings, but we realized that there is not much you can actually do as parents in such a situation. So we ended up moving her to another school. But the case has been in the back of my mind ever since and I wanted to build a story around it,"
"It is, after all, a universal theme that can be viewed from many different angles. Sometimes children don't even know how mean they can be to each other. So this sensitive topic is very close to my heart"
