1. DATES
Vierte Welle Film Festival will be held in the city of Berlin on March 15, 16 and 17, 2024, with headquarters at Lichtblick Kino and Bardo Projektraum. The deadline for registrations is until December 31, 2023.
2. GOALS FESTIVAL
Vierte Welle Film Festival is a safe space for Queer and FLINTA artists who have fiction, documentary and/or experimental short films for the viewing and discussion of content with a philosophical, political, economic, social, ecological and cultural nature, whether academic. or not, in order to promote critical cinema that contributes to social transformation and equal rights.
3. CATEGORIES
- BERLIN: short films by Berlin-based Queer and FLINTA filmmakers with a migration background.
- ME TOO: short films that refers to violence against women in all forms: physical, mental, emotional, economic, institutional, etc.
- ECOFEMINISM: short films that brings together feminism and environmentalism, ecofeminism argues that the domination of women and the degradation of the environment are consequences of patriarchy and capitalism.
- TRANS LIVES MATTERS: short films by transgender, agender and non-binary filmmakers to raise awareness about gender inequality
- BODY NEUTRALITY: short films that refers to the socially established canon of beauty. Incluide menstrual health.
4. PARTICIPATION AND SUBMISSION
Short films that apply for the 4th version of the festival must meet the following requirements:
- Short films that have a maximum duration of 25 minutes will be accepted.
- The film genre can be varied and can include: documentary or fiction, experimental, animation, music video, transmedia, etc. That have as context some of the categories already mentioned.
- Movies that are sponsored by commercial companies whose content is for advertising purposes.
- Through registration, the organizers of the event are automatically granted the right to free and non-profit use of fragments extracted from the film for a maximum duration of 3 minutes for the promotional broadcast of the festival through television, social networks or other means of communication, both during the festival and on the occasion of subsequent shows or events. Copyright always belongs to the authors/directors and/or producers.
5. REQUESTED MATERIAL
Initially, the festival will ask applicants for the registration form correctly completed by the owner of the film rights. The copy of the film will be in digital format through a link that can be vimeo, YouTube, etc. If it is a private link, the password is requested. The curator team of each category will use the link for the selection process.
If the work is selected, the organizing team will contact the person responsible for the application to request an original copy of the short film and information on social networks and photographs for festival advertising.
6. SELECTION
The curators of each category reserve the right to select the short films, place them in the sections already mentioned and program them as many times as appropriate.
The authors of the selected works will be notified sufficiently in advance to send a screening copy in the appropriate format for the exhibition. The authors of the selected films may request letters of invitation to process scholarships or aid from mobility sponsoring institutions for this type of events.
7. SUBTITLES
For inclusion reasons, it is requested that all nominated short films have English subtitles even if the main language is already English. For this reason, these must be submitted by the applicants themselves.
8. PRIZES
Vierte Welle Film Festival is not a competitive film festival, so filmmakers will not obtain a physical or monetary award when selected in any of the categories described.
9. RATES, SHIPPING & RETURNS
The value per application is 5 euros but it will be free if the applicant uses the code VIERTEWELLE.
Each applicant must be responsible for the costs of sending screening copies and/or additional material requested by the festival. The festival will not accept the screening of short films that incur additional fees, taxes or charges.
Screening copies will only be returned upon express written request, specifying the destination and date of return (distributors, production companies, different festivals, etc.).
The participant bears the return costs. The Festival will not cover any costs for damages due to the use of copies. The festival does NOT pay any screening fees or copyright payments.
10. PRESS & PROMOTION
The owners of the selected films undertake to include the phrase Official Selection of the Vierte Welle Film Festival and the Festival logo in their advertising and/or press material. Directors and producers commit to actively sharing on their social networks.
The films may be used at future Vierte Welle Film Festival events to promote the festival.
11. SCREENING FEES
Vierte Welle Film Festival will not make monetary payment for any short film for exhibition or copyright reasons.
12. ACCEPTANCE
APPLICATION TO VIERTE WELLE FILM FESTIVAL IMPLIES FULL KNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPTANCE OF THESE RULES AND CONDITIONS. ANY EXCEPTION, DOUBT OR CONFLICT WILL BE EVALUATED AND RESOLVED
