Via Sacra / Dave Formula feat. Howard Devoto
"Magazine" is a great UK band formed in 1977.
Dave Formula is a keyboardist, Howard Devoto is a vocalist of Magazine.
Cherry Blossoms images with my all-time best song "Via Sacra” by Dave Formula & Howard Devoto.
In Japanese, “Sacra” (Sakura) means cherry blossoms.
Since I listened to this song for the first time, I’d like to make a video with cherry blossoms.
Finally finished this video.
Every cut is shot in Hiroshima, Japan.

Why would I want to make a video of a song that was released more than eight years ago? The main reason is that the music heroes I loved in my late teens, are now in their 60’s and 70’s, and it isn’t clear if they will release any more songs. Take Pete Shelley for example. He was a longtime friend of the Howard Devoto, the vocal of this song and a former band member, who suddenly died last year. It is impossible to predict what will happen in the future.
My knowledge on music is poor in general, especially concerning new music. However, I like to study about certain genres and artists, and songs released during particular period of time. The reason I chose video as my career is that I wanted to work with such people. I would like to use video to support people and music that I truly love.
To be honest, I did not obtain prior permission from people in the video, therefore I wasn’t sure if my video will appeal to them.
Despite my concern, I received encouraging feedbacks from staffs of official sites and many fans.
I think it will be very difficult for me to create videos of famous Japanese artists without obtaining their permission. In the past I have tried to obtain permission, but in many cases my requests were ignored or my videos ended up being blocked. Maybe this happened because I am a Japanese person.
Perhaps this also happens to English people when they try to create videos about English artists.
I also see a special meaning for me, a foreign person living far away from England, to create videos of English artists.
I wish to devote my passion to something I truly love, which is creating videos.
In current environment where internet is being used by everybody, I would like to seek effective ways to express messages through video.
