Venice is On the water

As Brodskij said "the eye never sees itself, except in a mirror", the water is a big distorted mirror, and Venice is on the water.

Venice is the perfect city for the composition and decomposition of cultures, environments, ideas, structures. Here new realities, meanings and images emerge. A continuous process in movement and in progress, however repetitive, never the same. It is not futurism, it is not surrealism, it is not conceptualism, but something else, still undefined.

I saw in the mirror-water of Venice my eyes and their incessant blinking. Each time they opened, they captured the details, which they imprinted, repeated and overlapped.

Every time they closed, the images came to life, finally freed from reality, and twisted in fantastic forms, emergencies and hallucinations, in which, however, I always recognized Venice.

It will be that it is already an unreal city, it will be that sometimes water brings out new realities.

Director Statement

Paolo Pandin, born in 1993. Graduated from the Graphic Technical Institute “A. Palladio "of Treviso, then graduated in New Technologies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, passing through the University of Cinema and Theater" IL Caragiale "of Bucharest. From a very young age he became passionate about the audiovisual and entertainment world. He realizes real monologues with a social theme, realizes various reports on the world of the mafia, of voluntary work and concerning the economic crisis. All located in the territory in which he lives, the Treviso area and the Veneto region. Afterwards, he moved into the world of cinematographic experimentation, making several short films within the academic world and video art, always included within the exhibition world of the Venice Academy. Finally, continuing in various parallel activities such as organizing artistic events and Stand Up Comedy, he creates his first audiovisual works that can be defined as mature. The documentary "Badanti" and the experimental film "Hanno Ucciso l'Uomo Ragno". Both products focus on what is real, reread through a montage that creates multiple levels of reading. This is the author's focus: try to create a new audiovisual language that is adherent to reality, approaching the truth, managing to bring out the multiple levels of reading that already exist in the things of the world.
