Vena
First time writer and director Ryan Solomon John presents Vena. A theatrical depiction of young woman's last moments. Tormented by three voices, she struggles to make a hard decision. A decision that will define the life of her husband forever. This film explores an individual's needs and the effect it has on those who they love. In an attempt to portray the complex nature of mental illness and inner conflict through cinema, Vena aims to expose the visceral and real aspects of a dark and delicate subject.

Ryan Solomon John grew up in Bath. He attended Beechen Cliff School and went on to St Brendan’s College.
From a young age, Ryan has had a great love for reading and writing which includes short stories and poetry.
Finding himself surrounded by a community of creative, motivated people Ryan was inspired to produce his first short film which was self-funded on a small budget.
He has strengthened bonds with the people who have helped him to achieve this production of Vena.
His fascination with human intricacies and interactions in real-life situations has to lead him to write a powerful dialogue about a young girl’s inner torment.
Vena captures the blurred lines between reality and the inner world of magic that lies within us all. Through powerful imagery and sound, this other reality has been portrayed in this short film in a relatable if disturbing way that is distinctive and emotive.
Ryan is destined for greater things and has already written his next film script which he is hoping will be backed by external funding this time.
Vena was a learning experience. I have never written, directed, and produced anything before. This was one of the most fun, most addictive thing I have ever done, but also the most exhausting and painstaking process I have ever endured.
I hope that the message I wanted to share will come through the screen with this short film. And that mine and my team's efforts will be considered a fantastic performance. We made this film from pre-production to post-production in all of 2 months. I am extremely proud of this achievement, and I cannot wait to make my next film!
