Come play With Bumbar

"Come play with Bumbar" is a children's short film that celebrates the richness of Brazilian popular culture, plunging into the mystical charms of the reisado. Inspired by the iconic figures of Matheus, Catirina and Bastion, the plot unfolds in a lively village, the captain's yard, owner of a magnificent ox.

The captain invites his daughter, who lives in the big city, to the apartment party, giving her the most beautiful ox. From there, the adventures of Matheus, Catirina and Bastion begin. Catirina, 12 months pregnant, wants to eat the ox's tongue and forces her husband to kill him. Matheus, with no alternative, gives in and the captain, furious to lose his sharing ox, chases the trio.

Desperate to prevent the wrath of the captain, Matheus, Catirina and Bastion resort to all the mystical powers they know. They ask for help to heaven, hell, and the enchanted characters of popular culture, such as the ox, the burrinha, the jaraguá, the babanes, the gypsies, the shepherds, the doctor, the angels and the caiporas. Despite his efforts, the ox resurrection seems impossible.

Finally, with the help and strength of the characters of popular culture, the ox is resurrected through dance, as it is a symbol of feast and abundance. The short is accompanied by copyright songs, with stunning visual aesthetics, featuring a live band and vibrant characters that capture the magic and playful of Pernambuco culture.

I began my cultural activities in 1993 under the guidance of the late Geraldo Barros, an icon of Arcoverde theater and then director of the former Etearc, an institution I currently administer.
