Vaguely Surrounding Paths IV
“Vaguely Surrounding Paths IV” is part of a series of films that stands at the intersection between experimental cinema, video poetry, performance and audiovisual instalation. In that context I evoke the Allegory of the Candle credited to the Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope (423-323 B.C) and bring it to contemporaneity. This allegory can be told in two lines " On lighting a lamp in broad daylight, Diogenes walked about saying, I am looking for a human being." Of course, this alegory incorporates the foundations of cinic philosophy. But is the poetic condition of infinite searching that drives this project.
In that sense, in these short videos the character crosses the territory obsessively with a flashlight lit in broad daylight. No one knows who he is where he came from and where he goes and he’s always looking for something no one knows what it is. In that sense, he incorporates the absurdity of infinite searching as a poetic estrangement of the world. In the case of this video I also bring forth the symbology and poetics of water, which are inseparable from its living nature, as well as its condition of projection and transmission of meanings and metaphors. An infinite mapping, step by step, breath by breath.
