Vaguely Surrounding Paths III
“Vaguely Surrounding Paths III” is part of a series of short films that stands at the intersection between experimental cinema, video poetry, performance and audiovisual instalation. In that context I evoke the Allegory of the Candle credited to the Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope (423-323 B.C) and bring it to contemporaneity. This allegory can be told in two lines " On lighting a lamp in broad daylight, Diogenes walked about saying, I am looking for a human being." Of course, this alegory incorporates the foundations of cinic philosophy. But is the poetic condition of infinite searching that drives this project.
The character crosses the territory obsessively with a flashlight lit in broad daylight. No one knows who he is, where he came from and where he goes and he’s looking for something no one knows what it is. In that sense, he incorporates the absurdity of infinite searching as a poetic estrangement of the world. This short film, also calls for a tension between surface and depth. The sense of depth, presents itself as a mystery, as an abyssal secret and also as an impulse driven by an inexhaustible force. An infinite mapping, step by step, breath by breath.
