Vaguely Surrounding Paths I

“Vaguely Surrounding Paths I” is part of a series of films that stands at the intersection between experimental cinema, video poetry, performance and audiovisual instalation. Being the first film of the series it is also the longest. The ideas of circularity, repetition and duration sustain the main action, which takes us to a circular path traveled five times over the course of a day. In this way we are in the presence of five cycles that produce a larger cycle, that when projected in loop accentuates the character of infinite movement and infinite searching.
I evoke the Allegory of the Candle credited to the Greek philosopher Diogenes of Sinope (423-323 B.C) and bring it to contemporaneity. This allegory can be told in two lines " On lighting a lamp in broad daylight, Diogenes walked about saying, I am looking for a human being." Of course, this alegory incorporates the foundations of cinic philosophy. But is the poetic condition of infinite searching that drives this project. The character crosses the territory obsessively with a flashlight lit in broad daylight. No one knows who he is, where he came from and where he goes. He’s always looking for something no one knows what it is. In that sense, he incorporates the absurdity of infinite searching as a poetic estrangement of the world.
