Vaccination

BAM! is a 4-piece rock band from London Ontario. The members of the band (Adrian Owen, Tim Bussey, Hooman Ganjavi & Conor Wild) are all neuroscientists at the University of Western Ontario who care passionately about science, how science is perceived by the public and (of course) music. This music video is the latest in a series of theirs, celebrating the role that science has played in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and (gently) encouraging folks everywhere to get vaccinated as soon as soon as they have the opportunity to do so. They chose to base the song on the classic Beatles tune ('Revolution'), in part as an homage to a band that has influenced them greatly over the years, and in part to augment and strengthen their message (to get vaccinated), with a tune that will be familiar to most listeners.

Director Biography - Adrian Owen

Adrian M. Owen OBE, PhD is currently a Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience and Imaging in the Departments of Physiology & Pharmacology and Psychology at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. His research combines structural and functional neuroimaging with neuropsychological studies of brain-injured patients and has been published in many of the world’s leading scientific journals, including Science, Nature, The New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet. He has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles and chapters and a best-selling popular science book ‘Into the Gray Zone: A Neuroscientist Explores the Border Between Life and Death. Dr. Owen was made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Honors List, 2019, for services to scientific research.

Adrian started his first band ‘You Jump First’ as a post-doc in Cambridge, UK, in 1997. The band played the local pubs and colleges for 10 years and performed at academic conferences in London, Brighton, New York and Montreal. In 2010, Adrian moved to Western and together with Conor Wild, Hooman Ganjavi and other colleagues at the Brain and Mind Institute, formed ‘Untidy Naked Dilemma’, a 7-piece band of doctors and neuroscientists, mainly playing guitar and synth hits from the 80s and 90s. In 2007, ‘Untidy Naked Dilemma’ went their separate ways, but with the recent move of seasoned drummer and old friend Tim Bussey from Cambridge to Western, he, Owen, Wild and Ganjavi re-remerged as BAM!, playing guitar-based rock & roll from the 60s to the present day.
