A masters graduate in studies of Management (Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia -2001) and Film Editing (Academy of Arts in Bratislava – 2006), Michal Kollár has been active in commercial and TV production since the age of 18.

At the age of 19 he debuted with three part miniseries “Blava” which aired on a private cable network in 1997. Kollar has spent his 20s and early 30s as a sought out director of commercials on Czech and Slovak markets working for many major clients (Renault, O2, Nestle, major local banks, insurance companies, charities).
In 2007, Kollar produced/directed his first feature, The Catfish Summer, which was made without any state support or TV participation and gathered over 100,000 admissions in the Czech Republic and gained the status of a cult comedy.
Kollar has been active as a prolific producer responsible for Slovak-Czech and international co-productions which received numerous awards and/or nominations (see the included producers filmography), many times supported by the MEDIA and Eurimages schemes.
His next directorial effort was the first cinematic adaptation of the wildly successful series of detective book thrillers The Red Captain. This film won one Slovak Academy award and was distributed theatrically in Czechia and Poland (well over 60 000 admissions).
The film had internationally premiered at the Tallinn IFF Black Nights in the first and second features section. The film has been signed to be distributed across Amazon Prime and Netflix platforms.

"Villa Lucia" is a coming of age story told in my beloved genre of comedy and adventure. It is a homage to our memories of movies, long-lost friends and first loves, the ones that "got away". But above all, it's a crazy story about a broken-hearted break in.
