Synopsis:

In the scenic Kodaikanal mountains of Tamil Nadu, the State Government had organized a medical camp to promote male sterilization (Vasectomy) on the occasion of International Vasectomy Day. Health Inspector Gokul, accompanied by Health workers Geetha and Kesavan, approached the village president, Jayanthi, seeking her support to spread awareness and recruit volunteers for the sterilization surgery.

Unfortunately, their mission faced resistance from the villagers. Jayanthi encountered negative feedback, especially from women, who expressed concerns about their husbands' virility and vitality being affected by the surgery. Despite her sincere efforts to convince the people, she struggled to change their minds. As the days passed, even the health inspector's team started losing confidence in their endeavor.

However, a glimmer of hope emerged when they encountered a young couple who already had two children and were expecting third child. Despite his father's disapproval the husband agreed to undergo vasectomy due to his wife's deteriorating health conditions and do want to burden his wife for want of a male child.

• The situation shed light on a significant issue in India's family planning practices
• In the past eight years, an overwhelming majority of family planning surgeries (Tubectomy) were performed on women, comprising 98.69% of the total surgeries.
• In contrast, men's participation in family planning surgeries (Vasectomy) was dishearteningly low, accounting for merely 1.31% of the total procedures
• Moreover, this number was decreasing every year

The village's story served as a reminder of the prevailing societal attitudes and challenges surrounding male sterilization, emphasizing the importance of addressing these concerns and promoting gender-equitable family planning practices.
