Despite their hermetic, serious and technoid appearance, my artistic works speak a lot about us humans and how we deal with what surrounds us: What are our legacies and what do they reveal about us? Analogies in anthropogenic traces from archaic prehistory, the industrially influenced Anthropocene and an indefinite future are captured and explored - the archetypal mixes with the technological. My works (painting, object, photography, cgi, video, sound) become relics that tell about the enigmatic nature of the world which mankind shapes with its decisions. They elude a binary naming - an oscillating between utopia and dystopia, between monumentality and silence, between the material and the virtual sets in.
My art arises from my work on and with an image archive: Material is researched, viewed, rearranged and then combined into a painting or an object ... It can be an everyday object or refer to a childhood memory. It can have something enigmatic, grotesque, sublime or dreamlike or even tip into the uncanny. It can tell of human actions and refer to something cultic. It can tell about the past, but it can also contain something present or future. It can show sadness and harshness. It can tell of perfection, but also of failure. It can be elegant, but it can also be ugly. It can be part of the collective memory, but also part of my very own world.
