Us, Italy's Moroccans

"Us, Italy's Moroccans" is a choral story of the community of Moroccan origin of a small town, Saluggia, in the province of Vercelli.

A life of wandering furrows their faces, whose wrinkles sway like dunes in the desert wind. Dark and tired eyes, but proud to affirm their existence, to claim a place in this land.

Hands now worn out by work, but filled with the hope of giving a better future to their children, those second generations who will be a new model of people.

The melancholy of adults for a land that no longer belongs to them, the call of the smell of the Moroccan countryside that leads to the need to once again impregnate one's skin with that smell, now abandoned.

The will of the children to retrace the places of their fathers, to grasp the origins to fill their own identity and not fall into the ineluctable vastness of the world.

The Moroccans of Italy are those who cannot feel at home in their homeland because they have abandoned it, betrayed it in the hope of a better life, and for this they must pay the price of not even being able to feel Italian, of living daily the duality of one's existence.

These people have told themselves in their daily lives. Now it's up to us to try to reconstruct their history, their identity as much as possible, reaffirming that sacred principle of the world of Ancient Greece, Xenia, the principle of hospitality, now long lost.

Artist Biography
