Director Statement

I saw this film as an opportunity to illustrate the importance of community in light of the climate crisis. When we first met the VGFC players and founders, it seemed like the beginning of something locally impactful that the global sports community could benefit from observing.

VGFC's whole strategy was premised on promoting climate justice through building a football club, and that presented a lot of questions to us as filmmakers: How can this be more than just branding? How will the audience respond? Are the players actively engaging with the community to progress these goals?

As we attended more games, practices, and events, the answers to these questions surprised me. It was clear that one of the most significant results of the club's efforts was a passionate and growing base of supporters. The way the fans locked onto the mission seemed to be fueling wins on the field, and the local excitement surrounding the team signaled a clear demand for more climate conscious sport communities.
