Director Biography - Thomas Ross

Thomas Ross is an actor turned independent filmmaker in Los Angeles, CA. Ross left his home in Upstate NY to pursue acting while moonlighting as a registered nurse in the Golden State. That journey has brought him into producing; Unusual Company being his debut project. With a taste for the macabre and queer– a disposition one earns from nursing– it is no surprise that his first web series is sex-positive with a dash of the paranormal. Ross is excited to bring to life this endearing and comedic couple who have a knack for attracting very unusual company.

Director Statement

I initially created Unusual Company out of necessity. With Hollywood’s lack of diverse roles, my best friend and Associate Producer, Mikkel Simons, and I decided enough was enough: let’s create our own web series. And in true filmmaking fashion, the project kept evolving.
A modern marriage, far from the classic heteronormative narratives, became the focal point for the series because a healthy— and complicated—21st-century relationship deserves to be depicted in media with all its dirty, embarrassing, and beautiful nuances. I mean, what else does a registered nurse turned producer do when they feel isolated by Hollywood’s narrow representation of love? They create a treatment plan.
That’s why I produced Unusual Company.
For the kinky.
For the queer.
For the modern love story.
