Director Statement

I can vividly remember my reaction when my cousin told me that Christianity was a "white man" or "slave master's" religion. I've read countless articles about African American's who are turning their backs on the church and walking away from the faith. I've had numerous conversations with African American men who are sick and tired of grappling with their identity, and their religion. So as an African American myself, I felt that this story needed to be told, and I was the one to do it.

But more than just a story, this is history. History that can be verified and traced. History that scholars and historians both black and white have written about. History that, if shared can help provide much needed answers in an effort to help individuals make an informed decision. Unfortunately, this history is left Unspoken. Until now.

I have blended my passion for compelling storytelling and beautiful imagery to provide an honest look at the history of the Christian faith, that will hold skeptics accountable as well as the church. I intentionally chose locations, such as historical churches and libraries; and placed the camera in angles that will draw the viewer in because I wanted to make this the most cinematic and embracing experience as possible. I had to make a film as big as the topic itself.

I want audiences to feel challenged, but also inspired. I want people of all color to get well acquainted with how "we" got here with this vastly popular view of the Christian faith that is forcing so many people away; and what we are going to do to get out.
