Unseen Zone
Premise:
Akhil, a teenager, starts losing his individuality when social media tricks him into feeling that there is a void in his life.
Synopsis:
Akhil is a shy, introverted, 15 year old boy who prefers spending time by himself. He is busy all day with online classes, reading books, playing chess, and writing blogs in his free time. He is so shy to talk to people that he avoids asking questions in class, even if he doesn't understand what is being taught. When the telephone rings beside him in the living room, he ignores it completely and waits for someone to pick it up. He has no friends, but he is happy being alone and doing the activities he loves to do.
On his 16th birthday, Akhil gets a new smartphone from his parents. He creates a new account on Instagram and starts checking out the app. While scrolling, he stumbles upon a picture of a girl celebrating her 16th birthday. She has a group of friends having a party and singing birthday wishes as she cuts the cake. This makes Akhil feel a little jealous of her as he looks at his simple pastry with a candle on it.
As the days go by, he sees pictures and videos of friends hanging out together, laughing and having fun, and the amount of comments and messages they get on their profile. This makes him feel that he is missing out on something big; he starts realising that he lacks friends, and slowly, it starts affecting his daily life. He cannot concentrate while reading, and looks at the kids playing downstairs instead. He stops playing chess because it is supposed to be played by 2 people. One day, he realises that he has zoned out during his lecture, and the class is over. He breaks down completely after knowing that Instagram snatched away the only social interaction left in his life. He finally decides to do something about it.
He writes a blog about how he felt since he joined Instagram, and how it ruined his life completely. He posts this blog on his Instagram account as well. The next day, he finds that his Instagram is flooded with comments and messages from people who read his blog. He laughs after looking at the those messages and ignores them completely. He takes a screenshot of the message count, and puts it as his story. He throws his phone away, picks up a book, and starts reading with a little smile on his face.
