United Front - The Peoples Convention

The chronicling of the 1991 Peoples Convention movement highlights riveting twists and turns of racist southern politics, stealing, betrayal, vicious attacks, lawsuits and blackballing as the black Memphis city leaders came together to unanimously select a single black mayoral candidate to run against the white regime. This was deemed an impossible feat by whites and blacks. This documentary documents the entire process and how Memphis was able to elect its first black Mayor, in what was one of the most iconic cities in civil rights history. Film just won "Best Cutting Edge Documentary" at the San Diego Black Film Festival
