Director Biography - Piero Lim Jun Xi

My name is Piero, and I'm 21 years old from Johor Bahru, Malaysia. I am currently a student at Sunway University in Selangor, where I am pursuing a degree in Digital Film Production. This marks my first venture as a director, despite lacking prior directorial experience. However, I've been creating and uploading videos on YouTube since 2016, accumulating over seven years of video editing experience.

Director Statement

As a filmmaker, I am happy and honoured to be starting on the adventure of making this documentary about Kelvin. This motivated university student maintains an exciting second life as an underground rapper in Malaysia. This project offers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to dig deep into the exciting world of Malaysian rap while looking at the connected themes of identity, passion, and self-discovery.

Kelvin's narrative is appealing because it is honest and relatable. We hope to show the universal human goal of uncovering one's real voice and identity, despite of society expectations and limitations, through this documentary. Kelvin's passion of rap will surely highlight him as a special talent.

The documentary's central theme is capturing the raw energy and originality of Malaysia's underground rap industry. We will give a personal and complete experience to audiences by collaborating with local artists and producers. The video will not only highlight Kelvin's talent, but it will also serve as a platform for other growing underground artists in the community to raise their voices and address their difficulties.

My objective as a director is to investigate the obstacles that musicians encounter in the underground music industry, as well as the power of music to unite and strengthen individuals. We will take the audience in Kelvin's world of challenges and achievements through personal interviews, behind-the-scenes film, and powerful performances. This documentary is not only about Kelvin, but it is also an opportunity to introduce Malaysia's underground rap culture to a larger audience.

Finally, the film's purpose is to awaken in our viewers a sense of independence, encouraging them to embrace their true selves and achieve their aspirations. We wish to celebrate the beauty of self-expression and the transformational power of art through Kelvin's journey in the quest of honesty and self-discovery.

As a director, I have a commitment to telling Kelvin's narrative with honesty, understanding, and respect. This documentary is a tribute to the limitless possibilities that can be realised when one chooses to pursue their true love. We shall start on an incredible journey into the world of Malaysian underground rap, guided by Kelvin's perspective.
