Director Biography - Susan M Carr

Susan M Carr, a Sag/Aftra actress, has graced the Equity stages of New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle performing in the first national touring company of “An Inspector Calls” with Stacy Keach, Suzan-Lori Parks’s Festival at The Seattle Repertory Theater, The Empty Space, The Bathhouse Theater, Issaquah Village Theater, ACT Theater, The MET Theater (LA), The Coronet Theater (LA) and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York.

Her Film/TV credits include “Laggies,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The Practice,” and Mike Mill’s “The Architecture of Reassurance.” In addition, Susan has created her own theater shows: “The Carmen Miranda Show” at Intiman Playhouse, Bumbershoot Arts Festival, and Theater off Jackson, as well as “Lost My Voice” at Cornish Raisbeck Auditorium.

She was the principal soloist for The Spokane Symphony and her love of Brazilian music sparked her to create her own Latin jazz ensemble with Robert Petersen (guitar) and Epaminondas Nonda Trimis (percussionist/drummer). Susan Carr’s Ensemble has performed at Bumbershoot, Northwest Folklife Festival, Anacortes Arts Festival, Kirkland Jazz Festival, and the Triple Door.

Susan is also a well known Seattle and Los Angeles vocal technical teacher who teaches “The Art of Screaming.” Many of her student’s bands have been nominated for, and won, Grammy Awards.

Her passion for acting and music has driven her towards a new path: film writing and directing.  Susan recently produced, directed, and starred in “Unexpected Grace,” developed by Vintage Moxie Flix, her and Meredith Binder’s new film company.

Director Statement

My motivation for writing “Unexpected Grace” was to imagine what it would be like to be living with someone who was starting to exhibit dementia. In my own 49 year old marriage I've started to see in my partner and myself little moments of forgetfulness. Is it age or the beginning of dementia. Time will tell.
