Unemployed is a documentary about unemployment in Brazil focusing on people living in the city of São Paulo and seeking a professional relocation. Based on a large number of interviews with people in the job queue at Barão de Itapetininga street, the film reveals four chosen characters and builds a narrative of search for the basic principles of the human being.

Director Biography - Zarella Neto

Brazilian Photographer, film director, documentary filmmaker and graphic artist. Born in São Paulo in 1977.
Founded the Kott studio in 2002 working mainly in the Brazilian and international advertising market. Its main clients are: Toyota, General Motors, Bradesco, Nestlé, Electrolux, Ford, Qualicorp, Goodyear, Nike, Grand Vision, etc .
In partnership with the agencies F/Nazca, WMcCann, Ogilvy, Young & Rubican, Dentsu Latin America, Santa Clara, Common Wealth-Team, Africa, Wunderman, Latveria, Red Fuse.

Art director, photographer and set designer of the dance performance “Correm as Cidades pelos 4 Cantos do Mundo”, directed by Sergio Ignacio and Rubens Oliveira.

In 2019 he directed his first film, the documentary UNEMPLOYED.

Director Statement

• 6 times winner at the Cannes Festival with 2 gold lions and 4 bronze lions - Cannes - France
• Winner of the El Ojo Iberoamerica 2005
• 4 times finalist of the Conrado Wessel photography award, and took part in books an exhibitions at Sala São Paulo e MASP - São Paulo - Brazil

Exhibition and projects
• Exbition in the “Art Festival” in São Paulo, Virada Cultural, exhibiting enormous pictures on the streets of the city.
• Individual exhibition “O Costureiro” in Colorida Art Galery in Lisbon/Portugal.
• Intervention “Nossa Senhora do Crack” (holy mother of crack) in Cracolândia, crack cocaine users area in São Paulo/ Brasil.
• Project work about Crack. The photos was published in Estado de São Paulo newspaper. Followed the photos comes a text from Zarella and a text from the renowned sociologist José de Souza Martins debating the crack problem.
• Project: "Faith as symbolic manifestations of the social imaginary" Photos, interviews and production of audio visual content in some of the biggest religious festivities in Brazil, in conjunction with the Master in Philosophy Sergio Franco.
