Under the surface
« Under the surface » emerges like a mirage in its own way. A cinematic expression of the invisible world underlying the art of dancing, an exploration of this poetic and immaterial space.
Four dancers evolve in their personal and intimate languages as they interact with a minimal scenery. A window, a staircase and beautiful old walls washed by passing time are the elements that help weave the narrative of a visual journey.
Winding shots leave a transparent trail to express the impermanence of reality.
A story slowly unfolds as we get carried away by hypnotic music. Soft synth waves coming from afar give way to a voice murmuring distant secrets. The silhouette of this ethereal world emerges like the impression of ink stains in an old Japanese print. The spectator is left silently still, like struck by an incantation.

Born in Venezuela, Inocente grew up in a family of classical musicians. He first studied philosophy in Caracas and then music composition and guitar at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris before turning to contemporary music production.
He naturally started working as an art director, producing audio-visual content with a distinctive approach focusing on performative aspects of the artistic process. His background and knowledge in musical composition open a unique perspective in his treatment of visual material, resulting in a sense of poetry and abstraction yet rhythmic and dynamic.
Impermanence has been a constant in my life. My first philosophical lectures, due to a happy coincidence, were oriented towards this vision: the flowing nature of reality. I left a country that no longer exists, not only because of an elemental chronological question, but because after more than a decade later, a profound political change swept away most of my primary landmarks and references . Personal events furthermost affirmed this general awareness of an ever changing existence. To me, as an artist, a visual and acoustique representation of impermanence as the natural state of being became an inevitable path. How to find ways of expressing this movement became a conscious research. Electronic music and choreographic movement proved to be incredible tools in this search for a language of the impermanent. Ethereal sound, noise, non formatted sound key elements. Blurred images, trails and imperfection appeared not only as beautiful but also necessary elements. Under the surface emerged as a moment of this process of thought. In this horizon of the ever changing, art and specifically film, has proven to be a wonderful experience. A crew of people converging during a limited time framework, the creative process of an unpredictable final product transformed by the hands of the people making it possible. All these aspects spoke to me in the same way and resonated harmoniously. Art as the ongoing expression of the impermanent.
