Skylee Howard is a 20-year-old filmmaker from Jenkins, Kentucky who has always had a deep love for film. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing with her dog Squirrel, and watching more films. Her goals for the future are to finish her degree in the arts and, hopefully, make many more films!
Hayley Brock is from a small town in Leslie County, Kentucky. She's a social butterfly who recently discovered a love for filmmaking. In her free time, she enjoys playing the trumpet, making music, and watching all the "Saw" films. She plans to go to college to learn more about filmmaking and hopes to someday create a coming-of-age horror film, inspired by the movies that first got her into filmmaking.
Colt Powers is from the small town of Jenkins, Kentucky. He has discovered a love for filmmaking and aims to shed light on many issues often overlooked in Eastern Kentucky. Colt is also passionate about football, powerlifting, and striving to be a better person each day.
Skylee Howard: "I wanted to make this film for my parents. I grew up listening to my mom and dad’s stories about their past excursions and always wanted to bring their experience to light. Listening intently to stories about my grandfather, I became consumed with his story, not only because of its relation to me but just how interesting it is as a whole. I wanted to give my parents the opportunity to tell their story in the way it should be told; no misconceptions or lies. Under The Hood, to me, is a passion project detailing the story of my family and how we have overcome our adversities together."
Hayley Brock: "I started working with the Appalachian Media Institute completely unaware how filmmaking would change my life. Being a part of the “Under The Hood” project has been an amazing experience that has opened my eyes to how beautiful Appalachia truly is. I love where I grew up and am so happy to have created a wonderful film with the wonderful people around me."
