Experiencing Interruptions?

Uncle Brian

Uncle Brian Birch is caught between two worlds, his Wurundjeri identity revealed to him at the ripe age of 37. Raised on hard times in a very different Fitzroy; his previous life filled with alcoholism and violence. Residing in a retirement home exclusive to elders of Torres Strait and Indigenous communities, his days are spent painting, smoking and sharing conversation with Courtney, who spends time with him during her visits as a volunteer. His art is a contemporary take on traditional Koori paintings, although he appears to feel a certain disconnect between himself and other Indigenous artists. UNCLE BRIAN BIRCH is a short documentary which highlights the realities of ageing, identity and community connection.
