Tyler Holmes was born and raised in Southern Virginia to an African American father and a Puerto Rican mother. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University in the city of New York, he went on to work on Wall Street as a corporate paralegal with the intentions of going to law school. Unfulfilled in the corporate world, Tyler decided to make a 180-degree shift during the pandemic and fell in love with photography. He began to feel a sense of fulfillment that reminded him of his childhood experiences singing, dancing, and acting in the church; and with that, his professional journey into the artistic world began.
Using his experience as a photographer, he made a natural transition into the film world. He used his debut short film, “Intentions” (2021), to apply to various film schools, ultimately deciding to attend the University of Southern California in 2022. As a new Los Angeles resident, Tyler Holmes continues to focus on and improve his film making skills. He looks forward to breaking into the industry as a writer/director, telling stories that stem from his own experiences as a Black man in America.
