Director Biography - Chrishantha Surith Fernando

My career in the arts began as a child actor in Sri Lanka, with numerous roles in theatre and radio drama.
The Sri Lanka T.V. Cooperation selected me for a three-year producer traineeship.
I was granted a three-month release to write and direct a successful youth production of a musical drama entitled "Vyanga" for Ceylon Theatre Ltd.
On completing the three-year traineeship, I was permanently employed by Sri Lanka TV Cooperation as a producer, producing numerous Studio & OB productions for public broadcast.
I won a producer's scholarship in TV Broadcasting. As part of the scholarship, I completed an assignment at the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School.
I have developed a few documentaries for both ABC and SBS broadcasters. I also worked as an assistant director on short films. My recent short films are "An Orange And The Eye". and "Tying The Knot" . And also currently, I am developing "The Naked Eye", a low-budget feature film.

Director Statement

If the marriage is a theatre production, the wedding is more like your opening night. Even if you make a vow, " Till Death Do Ua part," some married couples get separated on the same wedding day, if not the next or the week after. I am trying to portray two characters, the bride and the groom, just about to separate. Before the crucial time, they share their inside out to show who they are...When you put it out inside, we begin to understand a little about that character and their motives. I intend to portray just a tiny bit of their life to understand these characters in a better way.  Next time you come across a couple that separates on the wedding day, you might be able to understand their situation a bit better. I like to share this experience with all the other people who are the audience of film stories.
